Jean Lafitte was a real life pirate who was a French pirate and privateer in the Gulf of Mexico and areas of America in the early 19th century.

He and the 13th Phantom had a great battle and even though they were on opposite sides, had great respect for each other. Jean was a great swordsman and perhaps was only beaten once and that was by the 13th Phantom.
